Foundation for the 150th anniversary of the Royal Society of Sciences of Liège


Five-year awards 2015-2020 

O

n the occasion of the 150th anniversary of its creation, the Royal Society of Sciences of Liège decided to create a Foundation within the Heritage of the University of Liège. This is to pursue the two aims specifically assigned to it by its founding members:

  1. promote the advancement and dissemination of science and its applications;
  2. contribute to the scientific reputation of the University of Liège.

The aforementioned Foundation has decided to award 4 five-yearly prizes called "Prix de la Société Royale des Sciences". These awards are reserved for the following scientific orientations:

  • the Biological Sciences prize is named after Edouard VAN BENEDEN ;
  • mathematical Sciences: Lucien GODEAUX;
  • physical Sciences: Pol SWINGS;
  • chemical Sciences: Louis D'OR.

The prizes, worth €1,000 each, are awarded to any Belgian or foreign researcher under 35 years of age on December 31 of the current year, who has distinguished himself or herself in one of the four above-mentioned disciplines. At the time of application, candidates must provide proof of having obtained (at least) a2nd cycle degree or equivalent.

The prizes are intended to reward all work published by the author alone or in collaboration.

The candidate's scientific file (paper version) should be sent to Mme Monique Jacquemin - Service des Bourses et des Fondations - Place du 20- Août 7, 4000 Liège. The closing date for applications is march 31st 2020 .

The application must include the applicant's curriculum vitae, a summary of his or her scientific activity (maximum 3 pages), a list of the 3 publications that the applicant considers most representative of his or her career, and a letter of support. In addition to the paper version, competitors are invited to send the complete dossier as a PDF file to monique.jacquemin@uliege.be.

The Support Committee of the 150th Anniversary Foundation of the Royal Society of Sciences of Liège receives all applications and selects the winners. This selection is subject to the approval of the Rector of the University of Liège.
