COURSES FOR FRENCH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Students can also take advantage of help and support services offered by the Student Advisory Service to optimize their chances of success. In one-to-one sessions or seminars, you will learn how to perfect your working methods, organize yourself better, manage your time well and find the perfect balance between leisure and study.
A wide range of courses and foreign language study programs
ULiège offers a wide range of courses and several language combinations are possible for some programs. The German language is part of the program of many courses and among our teachers there are also some German-speaking lecturers (from Belgium as well as from Germany).
German - of course - and other foreign language courses in the curricula
We offer language courses in almost all degree programs from the first Bachelor year onwards. In some cases, English is the compulsory language, but in many courses you can choose between several languages, including German. So you would have a big advantage!
In general, almost all of our degree courses include foreign languages. In the Master's in Multilingual Communication , numerous courses are taught in English, Dutch, German, Spanish or Italian. German is also part of the Modern Linguistics and Literature: German, Dutch and English degree program(in the Bachelor and Master) and the Translation Studies degree program(in the Bachelor and Master).
During the Bachelorin Law , students can choose a first legal language (German, Dutch or English) in the first year of study. A second language is offered from the third year onwards.
In the first year, only language classes are provided. From the second and third year, depending on the language, and in the Master's degree, various courses are offered in German.
- Special issues in the legal area of the German language - in the first Master's year in law
- Introduction to German Law - in the first Master's year in Law
- Civil Procedure Law - in the Bachelor's degree in Law for students who have chosen German as a foreign language
Of course, the language of instruction for many courses, including those in linguistics and literature, is German.
For example:
- Study of German Literature - in the Bachelor in Information Communication, History, Philosophy, Modern Linguistics or in the Master in Multilingual Communication
- History of the German Language - in the Bachelor's degree in Modern Linguistics and Literary Studies
- German culture - in the Bachelor's degree in history, philosophy, art history, information communication, linguistics and literary studies
- German Linguistics
The Center for German Studies, the "Centre d'Études Allemandes"-, is also very active within the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities.
An international Bachelor in Economics and Management: a unique opportunity in the French-speaking part of Belgium
For the first time, students in the Bachelor in Economics and Management (HEC Liège) have various options to internationalize their Bachelor's degree if they wish:
- In the first Bachelor year: foreign language teaching
- In the second year of the Bachelor's degree: the possibility of completing a double degree with EM Strasbourg Business School, with options for English and German (double degree)
- In the third Bachelor's year: several options, including a double degree in German at the University of Hohenheim (Stuttgart)
Upon completion of their Bachelor's degree, students who have obtained a double degree at EM Strasbourg or at the University of Hohenheim will receive the diploma of both universities.
Obtaining two or three Bachelor's degrees, both in different languages and in different educational systems, without additional workload, is unique in the French-speaking part of Belgium. These degree programs also make it possible to add several international lines to one's CV and thus be more attractive for the job market.

More generally: Master's programs in English or bilingual Master's programs (English-French)
Several of our Master's programs, particularly within the Faculty of Applied Sciences, the Management School HEC Liège or the Faculty of Science, offer courses that are taught entirely or partially in English. This enables you to study at an international level and prepares you better for the challenges associated with the globalization of fields of study. Part of the degree program can be completed through an Erasmus or TIME stay at a foreign university.
