As a public university open to the world and is anchored in the scientific, cultural and economic development of its region, the University of Liège relies on its three pillars: teaching, research and community service.
ULiège trains responsible citizens who are provided with cutting-edge knowledge and critical thinking, are able to share knowledge and can push forward an increasingly complex world.
ULiège develops and promotes excellence in research, multidisciplinary and direct engagement with its instruction.
Global exposure is a top priority at the University of Liège. The institution offers a wide range of international mobility opportunities to students, researchers and staff, enabling them to enhance their cross-disciplinary skills and language knowledge.
ULiège: an experience of daily living. Located in 3 cities and 4 campuses, the university is a key player in terms of the environment and mobility.
Since the start of the 2024 academic year, ULiège has been offering courses based on the Service Learning approach. This learning method is based on concrete experiences in which students engage in a service that meets a social need expressed by society. They then reflect on these experiences, learning not only academically, but also professionally and as citizens.
Service Learning therefore enables learning on three levels, with benefits for all those involved :
1. University teaching (academic world)
2. Social commitment (civic world)
3. Practical experience (professional world)
The projects integrated within the Service Learning framework address complex social issues that can be the subject of field projects in all university disciplines: students in Pharmaceutical Sciences could work on making drug leaflets more understandable, those in Motor Sciences could help organize a sporting event for an underprivileged neighborhood, those in Translation and Interpreting could assist reception centers in need of polyglot students, etc.
These projects can involve a wide range of players and all types of public : farmers, shopkeepers, housing associations, the elderly, refugees, teenagers, non-profit organizations, cultural operators, etc.

Service Learning can be applied to all disciplines. ULiège's objective is to develop this learning system in all its courses.
To make this training offer more visible and easier for students to identify, courses offering the Service Learning option are marked with a specific pictogram in the syllabus. This course mapping also supports the development of learning content and encourages the sharing of experience between teachers.
The “Service Learning” project is placed under the authority of the Vice-Rector for Education at the University of Liège.
It is steered by a working group made up of teachers from various faculties, an academic affairs manager, a representative of the Fédé, a representative of IFRES and a member of ECLOSIO, an NGO based at the University of Liège. The working group is chaired by the project's academic manager.
Our team is at your disposal to discuss your ideas and develop a collaboration together.
