On September 9 and 10, new students took their first steps at ULiège. These two days were a chance to explore the campus and university life, meet new people, and get their bearings before classes began.
Following the welcome address, nearly 2,000 new students had the opportunity to visit various information booths dedicated to campus life and recreational activities, meet with student clubs and the Student Federation (Fédé), enjoy a variety of activities, and experience the musical atmosphere provided by , the 48FM radio station.
The Campus Challenge, the afternoon’s highlight, brought together several hundred participants from various faculties. Divided into teams, the students tackled a series of challenges across the campus: archery, treasure hunts in the library, a blind test, an orienteering race… These challenges allowed them to explore the campus in a new light while making new friends.

The start of the academic year continued the next day with Smart Start, which brought together more than 1,000 first-year undergraduate students. Modeled after the New Student Orientation Programs widely used in English-speaking countries, this program provides a springboard for newcomers by combining social, academic, and logistical support from the moment they arrive on campus.
After a welcome breakfast at B4, students had the opportunity to discuss their first steps at the university and benefit from the experiences and advice of more experienced students.
Throughout the day, workshops covered various topics related to university life, ranging from study methods to motivation, including ULiège’s digital tools.
The day concluded with mini-lectures led by ULiège professors, allowing students to explore different fields of research and connect them to their future academic paths.
This initiative illustrates the university’s commitment to developing educational programs that promote success and personal growth from the very start of students’ academic journeys.

Each faculty welcomes its new class during dedicated orientation days: a welcome message from the faculty, practical and academic information, mentoring by upperclassmen, guided tours, immersive experiences, games, and social events (barbecues, fun activities)… A welcome tailored to each faculty’s unique context, designed to help you explore your program and build your first connections from Friday, September 11, through Monday, September 14.
