iconeAttention Pursuant to the Decree of 7 November 2013 (Article 113, § 1), a student may not enroll in a master's degree in didactical studies or at the A.E.S.S. if he has not previously demonstrated a thorough command of the French language. To verify the mastery of the French language of the candidates for the studies, the academic authorities organize a specific examination.

Are exempted from this examination students holding one of the following titles :

  1. certificate of upper secondary education (CESS), or certificate or diploma of higher education for social advancement, or diploma of aptitude to access higher education (DAES) issued in the French Community ;
  2. certificate of admission examination giving access to undergraduate studies ;
  3. certificate of passing the special examination for admission to studies in engineering sciences ;
  4. proof of passing of other tests of proficiency in the French language that the jury has considered as probative (information to the Registration and Admission Office)
  5. foreign diploma, title or certificate certifying studies that the jury has considered to include sufficient French language instruction (information to the Registration and Admission Office).

Conditions of the exam :

  • The examination may be presented twice in the same academic year.
  • The examination is successful if the student demonstrates that, in his or her oral and written communication, he / she has proficiency in the French language equivalent to level C1 (B2 master's degree in didactical teaching in modern languages and literatures) of the European framework. common reference for languages, published by the Council of Europe, which comprises six levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2.

The examination has two components :

  • written test : from a presentation (about 15 minutes) or a text (2 to 3 pages maximum) dealing with a general subject, make a summary in continuous text (about twenty lines );
  • oral test : conversation focused on the subject of writing to verify the correct understanding of the original text and to assess the oral communication skills of the student.

Calendar and registrations :

At the University of Liège, it is possible to present the French language proficiency exam for access to the exams of the didactical masters or the aggregtation on the following dates :

  • September 2, 2024 (registration deadline August 26, 2024)
  • October 14, 2024 (registration deadline October 7, 2024)

Registration must be done via a form to be sent back to the Registration and Admission Office.

The registration fee is 50 € (to be paid only by card on the day of the exam).
