In order to project you and your baby during your academic career, certain steps are required

pregnancy-1271739 1920

When should you inform the university of your pregnancy?

As soon as you learn of your pregnancy, and as soon as possible because it is during the first three months of the fetus that its organs and members form and are the most sensitive. Announcing your pregnancy quickly will enable the university to initiate a certain number of mechanisms to protect your health as an expecting mother, that of your child to be born, and to ensure the quality of your "working conditions" in the broad sense of the term.

What should you do once you learn that you are pregnant?

Send as soon as possible a proof of pregnancy to the Faculty Student Administrator of your Faculty.

What is the follow-up by ULiège once you have declared your pregnancy?

  1. Upon receipt of your proof of pregnancy, the Faculty Student Administrator contacts the SUPHT (Department of Hygiene and Health Protection at Work).
  2. The SUPHT then organises a meeting with the labour doctor (prevention advisor), a representative of your Faculty and of the SUPHT. The purpose of the meeting is to perform the risk assessment of your practical activities and to propose, if need be, any appropriate prevention measures.
  3. On your end, you will be summoned by the SPMT-ARISTA (external service for prevention and protection at work) for a medical examination.  Based on the results of the latter, the prevention Advisor will propose, on a case by case basis, prevention measures that are deemed necessary.  (the fees are taken care of by ULiège)
  4. The prevention advisor fills out the health assessment form and transmits it: to the student; to the Faculty Student Administrator's Office; to the SUPHT.
  5. The Faculty will then take the necessary prevention measures.

iconeAttention If the assessment reveals a risk of exposure to a banned agent (listed in Appendix II - Part A - Pregnant workers of the Royal Decree concerning the protection of maternity and explained in Appendix SUPHT 63), the Faculty will immediately apply prevention measures.

If necessary, the SUPHT will provide you with the necessary protection equipment free of charge.

If you notice the absence of the prevention measures provided for (whether you are pregnant, post-delivery and/or nursing), don't hesitate to immediately contact the SUPHT.

What should you do after giving birth?

If you have benefited from prevention measures during your pregnancy, make an appointment before continuing your activities with the prevention advisor-labour doctor -with Ms. Véronique HERMANS of the SPMT-ARISTA - 04/344.62.54). You will need to revisit the prevention advisor-labour doctor within 8 days after you continue your activity in order for the latter to take stock and decide, if need be, to extend the prevention measures (namely, points 5 to 8 are reapplied).

And if you decide to nurse?

You must immediately inform the Faculty Student Administrator, which will transfer the information to the prevention advisor-labour doctor who will verify that there are no exposure risks or forbidden working conditions (see Appendix II/Part B - Nursing workers of the Royal Decree concerning maternity protection). If this is the case, then the Faculty must immediately take the prevention measures provided for.

If you notice the absence of the prevention measures provided for (whether you are pregnant, post-delivery and/or nursing), don't hesitate to immediately contact the SUPHT.
