Acces conditions to the Master and online form

Under what conditions can university bachelors, students or graduates of a University School, of a Graduate School of the Arts...access a Masters programme at ULiège?

General access conditions, as well as conditions specific to each Masters, are defined. Other particular conditions are listed at the bottom of this page for students who have obtained their diploma in the European Union (outside of Belgium) or even outside of the European Union.

General access conditions to the 2^nd cycle (Masters)

Access to Masters programmes is regulated by article 111 of the decree of 7 November 2013 defining the landscape of higher learning and the academic organisation of studies, as well as by the implementation orders made under this decree.

Have access to 2^nd cycle studies those students who hold:

• a first-cycle academic grade from the same curriculum
• the same academic grade from the second cycle, but with a different orientation
• an academic grade from a long-term first or second cycle programme, by a decision of the academic authorities and under additional conditions that they set
• an academic grade similar to those mentioned in the previous paragraphs delivered by a higher education institution, in the French Community or otherwise, by way of a decision of the academic authorities and under additional conditions that they set
• a foreign academic grade recognised as equivalence to those mentioned in the previous paragraphs in application of this decree, of a European directive, of an international convention or other legislation, under the same conditions

is similar to an academic grade issued in the French Community: a title or degree leading to the same capabilities of professional access or further studies in the system of origin. The additional access conditions laid out in the 3^rd and 4^th points are intended to ensure that the student has acquired the prerequisites for the intended studies.

When these additional access conditions consist of one or more additional courses, these cannot represent more than 60 additional credits for the student, taking into account all the credits that they can otherwise use during their admission. These courses are part of their second cycle study programme.

The Government, on the proposal of ARES, defines the application terms of paragraph 3. In particular, a student with an academic rank of Master in 60 credits referred to in article 70 §3 is granted at least 45 credits when they enrol in studies leading to the academic rank of Master in 120 corresponding credits.

Students with the following also have access to studies for the purpose of obtaining an academic rank in second-cycle studies:

• a short-term first-cycle academic rank, by virtue of a decision of the Government or of the academic authorities and the additional conditions that they set, without these conditions being more restrictive than those set by the Government or establishing a distinction between institutions having issued the academic rank
• a similar academic degree/rank, issued by an institution of higher education, in the French Community or not, by virtue of a decision of the academic authorities and with the additional conditions they apply
• a recognised foreign academic degree equivalent to those mentioned in previous literatures pursuant to this decree, a European directive, an international convention or other legislation, under the same conditions

The additional access conditions are intended to ensure that the student has acquired the prerequisites for the studies concerned. When these additional conditions of access consist of one or more additional courses, these cannot represent for the student more than 60 additional credits, taking into account all the credits that they can use during admission. These courses are part of their study programme.

By way of derogation, students who, to be granted an academic degree which gives them access, must still obtain at least 15 credits and are regularly enrolled at the same time in a higher education establishment French community, also have access. However, students admitted under this provision cannot be taken into account by a jury of graduate studies before having fully satisfied the admission requirements and obtained the necessary undergraduate academic degree.

Subject to the general conditions set by the academic authorities, a student holding a title, diploma, degree or certificate issued outside the French Community which does not give them access to second-cycle studies under the preceding paragraphs may; however, be admitted to it by the jury of the studies in question, if the entirety of higher studies which they carried out successfully is awarded by the jury for at least 180 credits.
